Sue Black - my skull

I'm currently reading a brilliant book by Sue Black about bones. She's a Scottish forensic anthropologist, anatomist and academic and talks about when she's called in to crime scenes to identify bodies. Yes, yes, that's what I enjoy learning about!

So when I started the book last night, Sue was talking about how to identify the details about someone, if only their skull is found. Is it a man or woman? A child or adult? Pathology as to how they died?

It got me thinking. If my body - my skull - was found somewhere by somebody - I'd been murdered and only my skull was found - would she be able to identify me?!

As you can see here, yes she could.

From ear to ear over the dome of the top of my head, I have a deep trough. It can't be seen of course as I have hair covering it. But when I (rarely) go to the hairdresser, I always tell them so they don't get a shock when they feel it!

Also, when I feel around my temples when I have a headache, I can feel screws, inserted into my bone. I assume they were put in place to secure the flap of skull they temporarily removed when I had my brain injury.

So if Sue Black found my skull she would find these things and if she contacted my family then they'd be able to confirm who it was.

I do think about strange things don't I?!
