What I especially liked about the situation with James Cracknell was that he had a wife, Bev Turner, with whom he had three children.
When I was seeing my clinical psychologist when we got back to Glasgow, she told me about certain facts about brain injury survivors like myself. For a start, suicide is at quite a high level. This doesn't surprise me, as brain injury can certainly be life changing.
She also told me how the divorce rate is also hugely high. Again, it must be very hard for the spouse of a brain injury survivor. The injury leads to big changes in their lives which can be hard to live with. But it can also lead to personality changes which can also be difficult to live with.
I will say though, more recently, James and Bev have announced their divorce and James has recently got married again. This makes me sad, but of course I'm sure they had their reasons.
